METHODOLOGY

Estimates you can audit.

Paint

Paintable area is wall area minus doors and windows, never below zero. Base gallons are (paintable area × coats) ÷ product coverage. The selected waste percentage is added to that base. Packages round upward because partial packages cannot generally be bought.

Mulch, soil and gravel

Bulk cubic yards are area in square feet × depth in inches ÷ 324. Waste is added, then bag count rounds upward using the bag volume you entered. This conversion does not model compaction, moisture, settling, density or delivery constraints.

Flooring, tile, pavers and sod

Coverage is measured area × (1 + waste percentage). The selected package/roll coverage divides that total, then rounds upward. The tool does not choose a product, pattern, layout or installation method.

Drywall

Drywall coverage is (wall area − openings) × (1 + waste percentage). Sheet count rounds upward from the sheet coverage you enter. It does not decide sheet orientation, fire rating, fastening, joints or finishing requirements.

Concrete quantity

US-customary concrete volume is length × width × depth in inches ÷ 324 for cubic yards. Waste is added; bag count rounds upward using your entered bag yield. This is only a material-volume estimate, not a recommendation about thickness, mix, reinforcement, drainage, forms, structural design or code compliance.

What this does not decide

MeasurePatch cannot determine a product's actual coverage, structural suitability, code compliance, safe use, delivery policy or local material requirements. Read the manufacturer label and confirm your order with the supplier.

Data and updates

MeasurePatch uses only the product coverage and package sizes you enter; it does not scrape retailer stock, prices or specifications. Every formula on this page is covered by automated tests that run before each deployment.
