UPDATES
What has changed.
Fixes, corrections and new tools, newest first. Calculation changes are listed here because a result you relied on last month may not match one you get today.
A published contact address
MeasurePatch now has a real contact address rather than a note saying one was coming. Corrections to a calculation are the most useful thing to send.
The privacy notice was updated at the same time: email you send is held in the mailbox until it is deleted, which is the one piece of personal data the site now touches.
Metric mode, bag counts and wide screens
Switching a calculator to metric used to leave the form unable to submit — the converted values failed the input validation, so pressing Calculate only produced an error. Unit switching now works, and converting to metric and back returns the exact figures you started with.
Bag and sheet counts could be one too high. An exact division such as 200 sq ft of gravel at 3 in depth is precisely 110 half-cubic-foot bags, but floating-point arithmetic made it 110.000000000001, which rounded up to 111. Every calculator now shares one rounding routine with a tolerance for that.
On screens wider than about 1400px the band under the homepage heading collapsed and pushed the page sideways. It is now a normal full-width band at every size, and the homepage no longer scrolls horizontally on phones.
Category pages, clearer titles and a real icon
Surfaces, landscaping and hardscaping now have their own pages, so you can browse by the kind of material rather than scrolling the full list. The gravel and topsoil calculators were previously reachable only by direct link.
Page titles and descriptions were rewritten to say what each calculator actually returns. The site also has a proper icon now, replacing the placeholder it launched with.
Found something wrong?
A calculation that looks off is the most useful thing you can report. The contact page explains what to include, and the methodology shows the formula behind every result.
